The Custer Village Fire Station building was originally a small, two-story structure housing a hand-pumper for firefighting on the ground floor and a council room on the second floor. It was located on First Street, now known as Sanders Street.
In 1978, the Village, in cooperation with Custer Township, built a new municipal building along the US-10 highway to accommodate two fire trucks—modern at the time—a tanker truck, garage space, and a meeting hall with two offices.
Custer Station serves Custer Village, Custer Township, and Eden Township, while also supporting the many tourists in the area. Situated along US-10, more than 10,000 vehicles pass through this section daily.
